This record of Family History tries to paint a broader picture than just the Genealogy of the Hendersons, and includes Social History (for example, shirt manufacturing in England and Northern Ireland, and descriptions of life in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries). Photographs of ancestors, family life, homes, cemeteries, etc are displayed to add interest to otherwise dry words. Several extracts from family trees are used to illustrate the lineage of a specific group and emigration is traced, through maps, to America, Canada, India, Mauritius, New Zealand, Trinidad and West and South Africa.

Latest Information

Three important family events occurred during the last few months: my granddaughter Megan had her first birthday, my aunt Lois Moriarty (née Redman) had her 100th birthday and my daughter Kate got married. Congratulations to them all. I have also received a number of emails regarding New Zealand relatives, and further details will be added where possible.

Conventions Used

Siblings
  Siblings are given by their First Names only, as their Surname is obviously the same as for the main entry. There are currently no known situations where the mother remarried and half-siblings were involved. Should this later turn out to be the case, different Surnames will be given and an explanatory note attached to avoid ambiguity.
  Siblings are listed in the order of seniority (most senior first). In a few instances, the females are listed after the males, where they have been recorded like this in earlier documentation and where their birth dates are not known with certainty.

Names
  When "familiar" names are regularly used in documents as well as speech (eg Polly instead of Mary Ann or Harry instead of Henry) these names are given in brackets.
Where the first name is unknown, "Anon M" or "Anon F" will be used for males and females repectively.

Dates
 

Where dates are uncertain, the following notation is used:

c1956 "circa" - the date is generally documented as 1956 but there may be an error of a year or so.
a1956 "about" - possibly from a verbal source, the date is generally thought to be 1956 but there may be an error of a few years.
e1956 "estimated" - an estimate based on some known fact (eg a date of birth estimated from a known marriage date). Not particularly accurate, but it will provide a rough guide; usually within 10 years.
(1956-) thought to be alive.
(1956-?) thought to be dead.
(dii) died in infancy.
  In documents and the descriptions of pictures, the dates of birth of people are frequently given in brackets; eg. "This photo of Pa (b1872) and Ma (b1884) was taken in the Alps in 1919".
